I like flocks of birds
Workshop Lotte van Gelder with 15 participants, artists, architects, graphic designers who came in from Seoul to Lyon to LA. The context is the Know-How Show-How Summer program of art and design that takes place in Sofia, Bulgaria since 2015. The key to all our research is the body as an instrument. The body as tool to observe movement patterns and dynamics in relation to the architecture of the mineral sources in the heart of the city. We use the site and all material and immaterial structures we find here as a source and translate these matters into urban choreography. This is where our process starts.

Research and creation phase
over the course of four days we went into our collective investigations; participants looked into movement patterns in relation to the architectural structures. From the recordings of these patters, sketches, movements and words we refined personal observations into ephemeral and tangible projects.

Manifestation /conclusion
Patterns turned to new shapes, we exercised daily, moving together, observing together. From a communal project, each different accent gently arose. Turning into small performances, haiku-movement sketches, flowy installations, touching stones and typography. All this is presented to an audience on the last day, in installed and performed pieces.
This page reflects the process that we walked through collectively, and shows the different routes all participants took.
